Happy 3 Weeks Birthday Ezra!

Ezra had a good day.  We know that this can change at any moment and any hour but for now we are just going to rejoice and be glad in the day God has given us today with our family and with Ezra. They gave him another unit of blood (notice how pink he looks :) ) and they scheduled albumin every 6  hours to try and get his fluid balanced out.  So far he has responded well to both of them.  His heart rate is back down and blood pressure is up with minimum to no extra continuous blood pressure medication.  They were also able to wean on the oscillator settings.  We aren't sure how long we will be at those settings but it was very encouraging to see him be able to be on the lower settings for a small timeframe anyway and pray that we can see them more like that consistently in the near future.  They did another abdominal ultrasound early morning because his abdomen was looking pretty full again even after after the hourly draining of dialysis but it only showed a couple of fluid pockets which the nephrologist predicted was the case so she wasn't concerned at this point.  Ezra also had two larger stools today which again sounds so silly to celebrate about but one of the medications he is on to help stop his chyle leak also can cause constipation and we haven't had much success with getting him to go the last couple of days. This will help decrease the fullness in his abdomen, allow the peritoneal dialysis to drain better, and allow better expansion of his lungs.  So far we still have no leak in the dialysis catheter and his fluid being drained out continues to be clear.

We have been so fortunate that Ezra's primary nurses have been on this weekend so we have felt comfortable to spend a little more time outside the hospital the last couple of days.  All of the staff have been great at Rady's Children Hospital but his primary nurses have had him a number of days now so they know him well and they know how he responds to certain things.  They also are able to be more proactive and advocate for him while we aren't there which we are really grateful for.

Your continued support and prayers are very much appreciated.  The power of prayer continues to be seen in many ways!

With love,
Jeff & Nicole

Celebrating 3 weeks!
We spent the day at the San Diego zoo in the afternoon after church before we went up to see Ezra.
