Wednesday, Dec. 7 Early Morning

Ezra has had a stable night on the ventilator and they were able to come down on the settings. We always know that this can be temporary but it is nice to see that he can do it at least for a small timeframe again.  They said the first 48-72 hours is kind of the timeframe when these babies will let us know truly how well they can handle the conventional ventilator. We give all the glory to God for these steps, especially the ones when we have to take a true leap of faith when it doesn't make sense medically. His heart rate has been good throughout the night indicating he is comfortable and has not needed more pain medication on top of what he is already getting continuously.  His blood pressure has been all over the place, mostly high, so they are trying to figure out what works best for him to help control the big swings from low to high.  He has proven many times now just how sensitive he is to fluid shifts. The nephrologist indicated that this is fairly common since he is still a newborn and the receptors in his blood vessels are just learning how to compensate for this along with his kidney issues. There is still no leak in the dialysis catheter despite going up in the amount of fluid they dwell each hour.  Granted we are still at a very small amount compared to what we need to be at but we are very happy with these baby steps.

We continue to be humbled by how much support and prayers have been given to us and how much they have made a difference in this journey.  Thank you doesn't even seem to touch how much it means to us but seems to be the only thing we can say.  So again, thank you.

With love,
Jeff & Nicole
