POD #1

Last evening was a little rough getting pain management figured out. Today it’s been a balance of pain management and getting everything moving. All normal things after surgery. There was a chance he would get discharged this afternoon but decided it would be best for him to stay one more night in the hospital.

Last night when he was still coming out of the anesthesia he kept looking and feeling his abdomen and neck asking me if he had any extra tubes coming out. He said going into surgery he’ll know his prognosis by how many extra things were in him when he came out of surgery post-op. This is when it would probably be better to not be in the medical field. We are both full of gratitude today that I was able to keep reassuring him last night that no, he didn’t have those extra tubes.

We feel like we are running two races. The sprint is over but the marathon is just starting. We’ll celebrate this win in the first race and focus on getting him recovered. Then we’ll gear up for the marathon to come. I am truly honored to get to be his training partner through the good days and the bad.

We definitely can’t complain about the view. 🙂
