Conventional Venilator

Ezra's rough night continued on into the morning. They weren't able to make any headway on the oscillator settings and his oxygen requirements were high. Beause he has been responding to bag/suctioning they decided to trial him on the conventional ventilator.  Usually this switch is done when the oscillator settings are low enough to switch him over but at this point we needed to try something different. Even though we weren't close to those settings it was a risk we had to take. During this time we had to just sit patiently and pray and are very grateful for those of you who came along side us and did so with us. Words can't describe how much we appreciate all those prayers. As I sit there alone in my corner of his small room trying to keep my composure and stay out of the way of all the commotion of medical personnel it is so comforting to know and feel the support and love behind us and be able to give my anxiety and Ezra over to God. God has once again heard our prayers and Ezra has been successful for 4 hours. They are very skeptical that this will continue but we will continue to be on our knees trusting in God's plan for Ezra. One of our great praises is for the blessing of Ezra's primary nurses.  Today Ezra had Linda. She wasn't suppose to work today but came in for a meeting yesterday and saw he was having a rocky day. She went to bed thinking if I wake up on my own and they need extra nurses she would come in since none of Ezra's primary nurses were on today. Thankfully (for our sake) she woke up at 5:30 am and has been at his side all day during the transition. This was a very big answer to one of our prayers at 4am when we found out how poorly Ezra was oxygenating. It makes me appreciate even more all of my nursing colleagues. I always knew what a difference a nurse can make but being on the other side of things makes it even more apparent.

With love,
Jeff & Nicole
