Early Morning Nov. 20 Update

Ezra took a little step backwards yesterday afternoon with his ventilator settings but since then has made some small baby steps forward throughout the night. Because he kept the day shift on their toes yesterday he  bought himself an extra bedside nurse for the night so he has had two nurses for his care tonight which I won't complain about-the more eyes on him the better 🙂. He is now off the nitric oxide and they were able to wean a little bit on the oscillator settings.  He is also tolerating his peritoneal dialysis passes and his labs are stable.  Most of the labs are still elevated but it will take a while for them to start decreasing so we mainly just don't want to see the lab values go up at this point.  They increased the amount of dialysis pass time from every 30 minutes to hour and the amount of fluid each time from 10cc to 15 to now 20cc. They have lightened his sedation and muscle relaxant medication so he is starting to move around a little more and open his beautiful blue eyes the tiniest bit. The first time we saw him do this was on Thursday night after a very, very rough day when Jeff & I were in saying good night to him. It's amazing how these small things that we normally would take for granted has made us have such a moment of joy and thanksgiving where we can't wipe the smiles off our faces when we see it. His most awake time has been coordinating with the time we use to do kick counts at night when he was the most active in the womb which has also been fun to watch. We are praising God for every one of these baby steps and praying hard that His protecting hand is over Ezra so he doesn't get an infection or other damage be done to the lungs such as another bleed or pneumothorax. We have been so blessed with the medical staff that has been placed in our paths and continue to pray for his daily medical team that they can have wisdom and be diligent with his care. We are so grateful for all of the love and support given to us by each and every one of you. We would not be this far without all the prayers and encouragement so from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

With much love,
Jeff & Nicole
